Quilt of Valor

Becky pieced this for me to quilt.  It's 60 x 70.  There are stars in the larger pieces, and straight lines in the spinning triangles.  The star border has feathers, the red border has wiggly zig zag lines, and the outer blue border has a meander.

Charity Rag Quilt

This is another 36 x 48 rag quilt for the Comfort Quilts charity that my guild supports.
The goal for this one was to use up the orange fabric!

Wonky Wishes

This is a table runner and wall-hanging/table center piece made from Bonnie Hunter's pattern "Wonky Wishes".  These will be in the silent auction for my guild's show in March.  I did a simple meander in the colored sections using a variegated thread, and an 8-pointed star in the white sections.  The table runner is 12 x 24, and the other piece is 24 x 24.  There is a striped floral fabric on the back.

Quilt of Valor

This was pieced by Ann M. in Michigan.  We were paired as a team through the Quilt of Valor Organization.  It is a very simple pattern, but all of the fabrics come together to create a vibrant quilt.  The navy border pulls it all together.  I used a dark tan thread which blends with most of the fabrics, and put a star in each brick, with a squiggly line to connect them.  I added a small meander in the navy border.  It's 60 x 66

Martha's Butterflies

This was pieced by Martha for her sister, and she just wanted a simple meander on it. The largest blocks are of a butterfly focal fabric.  The backing fabric is the same gold as the outer border.  It's 80 x 80

Kathy's grand-daughter

Kathy made this top for her grand-daughter's high school graduation.  She had the white blocks and markers set out at the open house so all the friends and family could write a note of congratulations, or good wishes for the future - whatever.  Then the two of them assembled the blocks into this beautiful top and passed it along to me for quilting.  I used white thread and put straight lines in the setting triangles, swirls in the block edges, a tiny scallop in the written areas, a zig zag in the border,  and little flower petals in the colored triangles.  I'm sure her grand-daughter will love it with all the love and memories in it forever.

Replicating Tied Quilts

Nancy's Mom made two of these - for Nancy and her sister.  Nancy's children have used them, and they were well loved and almost totally worn out.  So Nancy had me copy them so her kids would have new ones.  They are white on both sides, tied with pink and white yarn, and are 40 x 60.

Pat's 30's broken dishes

My friend Pat made this - a broken dishes variation - using 30's reproduction fabrics.  I love all the cute little patterns in the fabrics - pumpkins, snowmen, flowers, polka dots, etc.  I used a circle template in the yellow border, ruler for zig zags in the red border, and line dancing and ruler work in the body.  We both love how the stars were created in the alternate block by quilting to a point near the middle of each triangle.   I used an off white thread that blends perfectly - even on the red back.

Nicki's T-shirts

Nicki is a past student who played basketball and soccer, so this was a really fun quilt for me to do.  She had lots of shirts to pick from, so we ended up choosing 3 for the back.   She played basketball and soccer, I quilted basketballs all over, which look awesome in orange on the back!   I added an embroidered basketball to her label.  The quilt is 72 x 93.

Presentation Cases

I was on a roll last week when I was making presentation cases for the two Quilts of Valor that I finished.  They are so fun and easy to do that I just kept going.  The body fabric of the first becomes the header on the second, and on it goes!  These are the three extras that were passed on to our state rep along with the two quilts in their own cases.  Sometimes quilts are donated without the cases, so they will have a few extras on hand.

Quilt of Valor

Our QOV state rep brought some of these blocks to our guild meeting last month.  They are another disappearing 9-patch.  I added a few more blocks to make the size requirements.  I quilted a pantograph called "Water World" - it added some curvy lines to soften the look.  The backing is red with gold stars, and I made a matching presentation case.  It's 60 x 70.

Marilyn's Flag

This was pieced by Marilyn and brought to me for quilting.  It's her FIRST quilt.  She did a fabulous job.  She chose a red backing in the same value as the reds on the front.  I quilted stars in the plain blue squares, and feathers throughout the stripes.  It's 45 x 71.

Quilt of Valor

I made this disappearing 9-patch while spending 6 nights in a motel.  :)  I had the 5" charms all cut, then pieced them, cut them, and re-pieced them in the motel.  Got it all done except for the borders.  I used a blue fabric with gold stars for the backing.  I quilted stars in the red and blue squares, white squiggly lines in the white sections.  The first border has a diagonal zig zag, and I put lots of little swirls in the blue border.  It's 64x78, has a matching presentation case, and embroidered label.
