Quilt of Valor

This is another one sent to me by the national organization.  They pair me up with local groups that piece the top.  This one was a group effort by several people.  It's large - 72 x 90.  I used a red/white/blue variegated thread throughout the blocks and inner border.

There are several different blocks.  People made their favorite 9" block, then they were all put together and borders added.

churn-dash variation

flying geese

pinwheel

friendship star

I put a zig zag line in the narrow white border, with another line going out to the corner

there is a simple meander with navy thread in the dark outer border.
Nothing fancy would show, so I kept it simple here

the backing is a great patriotic print:

Quilt of Valor

I pieced this 10-minute quilt pattern.  It was taught at my Indiana QOV group after I had moved to Florida.  So I found the directions online so I could sew along with them.  This quilt will get mailed back to them.  It's 60x72 and really does go together quickly.  A border is added top and bottom to give it some length

one block with red added in the center

8-pointed star qilted in the center of each block

more stars spaced evenly in each border

backing is a plain navy so the quilt shows well

Quilt of Valor

Jackie pieced this for her QOV group and sent it to me for quilting.  It's 58x69 and I used a red/white/blue variegated thread in the red and blue areas, and a matching thread in the neutral areas.

The backing has a message for the vet that will get this quilt:
