QOV

This is one that I made last spring when the Sweet Stitches Quilt Shop ran a mystery for our Quilt of Valor Sew Day.  We all had pre-cut fabrics ahead of time, so we could spend our time sewing as Joan gave us clues throughout the day.  We had no clue what the finished top would look like.  It was easy and went together fast with the large pieces.  There is a second strip of gold fabric like the red, but my gold isn't really dark, so it's a little more subtle.  Finished size is 64x78

I finally got it quilted, using a panto with stars.  I used a red/white/blue variegated thread to add some color throughout.

The back is a wide back that I found in Shipshewana last February

Maria's 30's

This is the second time around for this pattern for Maria.  She made one for herself in 2015 and had me quilt it.  However, her sister claimed it, so she made it again for herself!!

The challenge was to quilt it differently.  I made the mistake of going back and looking at the first one, so that picture was in my mind.  I finally came up with a different plan.  It's 67x86, with white thread used throughout.

It's a 2-block quilt.  I did similar quilting in each, but different in the center blocks of the outer rows.

They both have flower petals in the center and corners, but one has zig zags in the plain white, and the other has a large blocky petal in the triangle blocks

I used the same flower petals in the narrow border:

I love the way they show up on the back - it's like a whole cloth quilt

Love the way the quilting makes a large petal even though the sections were quilted separately

Quilt of Valor

The national Quilt of Valor organization paired me with a Quilt of Valor group near me that made made this top so it was sent to me for quilting.  It's 60 x 72

I used white thread to put a lot of 8-pointed stars in the white areas:

I quilted wiggly lines through the red and blue strips using a red/white/blue variegated thread:

The border is a patriotic print, so I just quilted a simple meander.  This same fabric was used on the back:

Quilt of Valor

The national Quilt of Valor organization paired me with a Quilt of Valor group near me that made made this top so it was sent to me for quilting.  It's 60 x 74

I used a white thread to quilt hooks in the white and cream fabrics:

The  stars have connecting curves and loops using a red/white/blue variegated thread:

I used a blue thread to put loops in the narrow blue border:

The backing is a patriotic stripe:

Quilt of Valor

The national Quilt of Valor organization paired me with a Quilt of Valor group near me that made made this top so it was sent to me for quilting.  It has a printed panel in the center, with a small border, then a large border of coordinating fabric with fireworks.  It's 60 x 72

I did a simple meander in the fireworks fabric as the quilting there doesn't show well.  The first border has 8-pointed stars:

There is a checkered fabric in the corners, and I did stitch-in-the-ditch there to emphasize the checkerboard look:

The backing is blue with gold stars:

Quilt of Valor

I made this from a kit that my QOV group put together.  I looks fussy but it pretty easy.

There are blocks that are alternate colors that I put together in rows

I used a panto that has lots of stars for the quilting, using a red/white/blue variegated thread.

I used up lots of bigger pieces, as well as left over blocks, for the backing.  The binding has been put on and is waiting for someone else to flip to the back.

Quilt of Valor

Virginia from my Quilt of Valor group pieced this lovely top.  It's 82 x 82.  I did custom quilting on it - as it deserves, using a cream thread in the background areas, and a red/white/blue variegated thread in the red and blue areas.

The block is 15" with lots of parts.

There are half-square triangles:

9-patches:

and plain squares

The rest of the quilt has stripes:

and checkerboard

I quilted lots of connecting curves and wiggly lines:

There is a 3" plain border in which I quilted squares to carry the checkerboard theme:

The back is plain red, with a piece of patriotic print on one side.
This print was also used for the binding

The red is really much darker - as seen on the side of the photo below

Patty's Memories

Patty lost her husband about a year ago, and she had me make 6 quilts from his clothing.  One for herself and her 2 adult children, and 3 for her grandkids.  The adults got a throw size, and the grandkids got crib sized.

I used 3 different patterns for each of the large quilts, and the same 3 patterns, but with smaller pieces, in the crib quilts.  All the pieces are 2" wide, but in the bigger quilts they are 6" long, and 4" long in the smaller quilts.  There was enough denim left that I was able to put a border on Patty's, and on 2 sides of her kids.

Patty's

Jen's

Jason's

The 3 crib size:

Ella's

Piper's

Julian's

She had the clothes sorted for each quilt.  They all have t-shirt logos from the Chicago major professional teams - Blackhawks, Bulls, Bears, and White Sox.  (sorry Cubs fans...) There are also t-shirts with the logo of the company he worked for.  There were also pockets from his jeans.  The adult quilts got the pockets with the red tag and logo, and the 3 crib quilts are plain pockets:

Patty's has the pocket and embroidered logo from his company that were on a denim shirt:

He enjoyed golf, fishing, and gambling, so she had me use those fabrics in the backing.

All 3 fabrics were used in each quilt. The large quilts have an extra strip of the clothing pieces to provide the necessary width

I quilted a simple meander in the smaller quilts, and a meander with loops in the larger ones.  I used a medium grey thread in all 6.
