GOOD FORTUNE

This is a Bonnie Hunter mystery from 2018-19.  She called for a white/cream background, but I had lots of grey so I used that.  Bought a few more must to have variety.  I bought the gold, but all the rest was from my stash.  This is 74 x 74.  I took 2nd place in our Feb 2020 quilt show

Cadence Court

This was a block-of-the-month program that I participated in 2018-2019.  It's 60 x 60.  I love all the bright colors and the intricate piecing.  Paper piecing really can create some spectacular patterns.  I used white thread throughout for quilting.  I won a second place ribbon in our 2020 show.  Ribbon is shown at the end.

 

I continued the diamond pattern into the quilting, and used several designs for the filler in the background.

I added an additional square to fill the corner, including the diamond in the center.

I did a stitch-in-the-ditch with invisible thread in the large pieced diamonds, crosshatching in the white areas, and several different shapes in the remaining areas.

The ribbon committee did a fabulous job this year.

SEA TURTLE

This is a collage quilt pattern by Laura Heine.  New sewing involved except for the quilting.  It's 45x64.  After the pattern is traced onto a very thin paper, fabrics are fused on to create the image.  I bought lots of different fabrics to add all the images around the turtle.  It got a second place award in my quilt guild's show in February.  I quilted it using a pantograph with fish and waves.

Easy Street

This is Easy Street - Bonnie Hunter's mystery from fall 2012.  The top has been done for a year, and I finally got it quilted. There are Baptist Fans in the body.  I love the look of them even though it takes forever to do them. There is a zig-zag line in the gray border, 1" circles in the narrow blue border, and piano keys in the outside purple border.  I used a template for those circles - they took forever also - had to make sure they were exactly within the border.  I found a batik for the back that has all of the colors in it.   This quilt took 3rd place in our 2014 quilt show.

Blue Ridge Beauty

This is a Bonnie Hunter pattern that took over 1 year to complete.  It was started at our guild retreat in Sept 2012 and worked on as a leader/ender project.  There are a ton of different fabrics, including some donated by friends at the retreat, and even a few Goodwill shirts.  All blocks were complete by the 2013 retreat, where I had a lot of room to lay out all the blocks and make sure they were all facing the right direction.  I numbered them all so I wouldn't turn any the wrong way.  Borders were added, and it was a 3-day project to quilt.  It's all free motion, with daisies, roses, feathers, swirls, leaves, and loops and zig zags used to get to where I wanted to go next.  There are 3 different fabrics on the back, solid white, solid blue, and white with grey polka dots - all pulled from my stash drawer.  The solid backings create a whole cloth look  - the quilting details really show up.  Finished size is 97 x 108 - BIG!!  This quilt took second place in our 2014 quilt show.

Jelly Bargelly

Thanks to Deb Moffit at Sew Fun Fabrics in Chesterton for graciously teaching this class to just two of us.  Thanks also for the great lesson on mitered corners.  She helped me to cross two things off my quilting bucket list - a Bargello quilt, and learning how to miter borders.  I quilted diagonal lines in each little square which enhanced the curved effect of the piecing.  The border quilting was simply lines straight out from the piecing seams.  This is 55 x 82,  This quilt was awarded first place in our 2014 quilt show.

Something's Fishy . . .

This is a one-block wonder quilt.  I saved some of the original fabric to use on the back, and embroidered fish to swim through the mazes created by the cubes.  Many of the hexagons show the fish swimming round and round the hexagons.  Sometimes there is a smiling face, or a tail in others.  The cubes were a challenge, but fun to add to the quilt.  I quilted this using circle templates centered at each hexagon intersection, which created interlocking circles, more visable on the back.  I quilted a cable in the first blue border,  free motion flip-flop feathers in the narrow pink border, and a free motion veined swirl in the large outer blue border.  I earned a second place ribbon in the 2012  String Along Quilt Guild show.          78 x 85
