HEAT WAVE

This was a kit that I did in 2019, and entered into our 2020 show.  I love the bright colors in it, although I swapped out several from the kit because I didn't like them.  It's 72 x 72.

flame pantograph

I quilted a pantograph that looks like fire, in a medium gold thread that seemed to blend with all the colors.

I put a facing on the edges rather than a binding that would have disrupted the pattern.

The back is a bright mix of some of the colors from the front.

Cadence Court

This was a block-of-the-month program that I participated in 2018-2019.  It's 60 x 60.  I love all the bright colors and the intricate piecing.  Paper piecing really can create some spectacular patterns.  I used white thread throughout for quilting.  I won a second place ribbon in our 2020 show.  Ribbon is shown at the end.

I continued the diamond pattern into the quilting, and used several designs for the filler in the background.

I added an additional square to fill the corner, including the diamond in the center.

I did a stitch-in-the-ditch with invisible thread in the large pieced diamonds, crosshatching in the white areas, and several different shapes in the remaining areas.

I did a lot of ruler work in the center:

I used this bright, colorful fabric for backing and binding:

The ribbon committee did a fabulous job this year.

Miimi's flower garden

This was a 10-year project of hand pieced hexies.  Paper piecing was used to keep all the hexies exactly the same size.  All the colors are totally random from my stash - each flower has the same red center.  It measures 86 x 108 but I have it on a twin bed, so it reaches the floor.  I used white thread to quilt connecting curves throughout. My grandmother - Mimi - loved flowers, so this was named for her.

I found this perfect backing.  It is bound in the same red as the flower centers.
