Tanya's Wall Hanging

Tanya paper-pieced this wall-hanging to give to her daughter.  They always go to visit her during Easter, so it  has a definite Easter theme.  It's 26 x 29.

I did a stitch-in-the-ditch around each block and each element so make them standout, then did a dense fill around each to really make them pop.

Then I added a lot of detail:

pads of the feet of the bunny, and ridges on the carrot

accent lines on the wings and dress of the garden angel

A crack in the egg, ridges on the carrot, and petals for the flower

shingles on the roof, and curtains in the windows :)

I put feathers in the two borders to create some movement around the quilt:

The backing is the same dark blue as the outer border, and really shows off all the quilting:

Quilt of Valor

A member my guild made these Quilt of Valor blocks, and Amy put them together.  It's a simple pattern, but makes a great looking quilt.  It's 64 x 76.  The binding (a red/white/blue print) has been applied and is just waiting for someone to hand-stitch to the back.

All of the block are different fabrics:

 I quilted 8-pointed stars in the corner and center squares:

and the diagonal lines in the pieced squares make a secondary star though the block"

I used the piecing as a guideline for X's in the white sashings:

The backing is a red/white/blue floral:

Darlene's Geese

Darlene pieced this just for fun - for herself.  I don't know if she has a name for it, but I think "Goosey Pinwheels" would be perfect.  The way the flying geese units look like a pinwheel and seem they are flying around looks awesome.  It's  61 x 72.

I quilted a double loop in the geese units:

and wiggly lines in the white background pieces,  They copy the movement of the geese:

There is a red flange around the outside before the black border, 

where I put a simple back and forth to fill it in:

She used a great paisley print for the backing:

Barb's star

Barb pieced this is with beautiful fabrics.  Such soft subtle colors.  It's 46 x 46. 

 I used a grey thread that blended with all of the fabrics. 

I quilted elongated swirls in the diamonds to accent the direction they flow

I like the way the swirls all come together in the center of the quilt

The 9-patches have have double connecting curves to soften those straight lines

I outlined the edges of the narrow border

The black border has feathers that curve around the corners from center to center.  

The backing is this same black fabric

I used a gold metallic thread to outline the gold cord in the large print border

Mr Fox

I made this for my great nephew for Christmas - for his playroom.  It's made entirely from 2.5" pieces.  The pattern is part of the Quiltmaker Magazine Patch Pals series.  It's  46 x 58

I quilted a meander in the face and body

The facial fur and tip of the tail have a swirly filler, with black whiskers done with a ruler to keep them straight.

The sky background has cross-hatching

The green border has loops,and the orange border has wiggly lines

I put a star in the green corner squares

I found the perfect fabric for the back

His Mom sent this picture - it's a hit :)

Quilt of Valor

My guild has a great Quilt of Valor group that meets monthly to work on Quilts of Valor.  This is one I made using lots of scraps from my stash.  It's 62 x 70.

All of the blue squares have stars in them

The red sashings have many different fabrics.  Some have stars and others don't.  The white stars are the only constant fabric.  They are all the same - also full of stars.

I used a red/white/blue variegated thread to quilt a pantograph that has flags and stars.  The is a large flag with one star in the corner, then other stars between the flags.

There is an extra row of sashings around the outside to create a border, 

and to finish the stars on the outside

The backing is a red tone on tone, with a blue binding to finish

Life's a Beach

I bought this fabric in January 2014 when it was miserably cold.  I saw this and immediately felt like I was at the beach.  It's just so warm and sunny.  I finished piecing in September of that year, but just now got it quilted.  It's 56 x 76

There are spinning tops in two color-ways.  Pink and cream

I used a variegated thread that had most of the colors in it to quilt a pantograph that has fish swimming across, mixed in with swirls.  I thought the fish added to the summery feel

I love the yellow giraffe print for the border:

The backing is a great zig zag that is full of color. I used this same fabric for the backing

Chainlinks

This is my quilt - I ran a mystery for our guild this summer, and this was the pattern I selected.  It's from Marcia Hohn at Quilter's Cache.  The first clue gave yardage amounts, then at each meeting a clue was given as to how many units to make.  Then the final presentation of all quilts was at our November meeting.  There were almost 30 participants and everyone seemed to enjoy making it.  It was amazing how different fabrics create totally different looks for each quilt.  It's 54 x 70.

You can see how the melon fabric creates links that connect diagonally across the quilt

I used white thread and 3 different sizes of circle templates for the quilting.  The teal background fabric has circles, so I thought the quilting would bring that forward.  And they soften all those angles.

The backing is from my stash. 

 Actually - I think it's a piece my Mom gave me when she was cleaning out stuff.
