Golf Towels

These two are for customers. The green one is for a woman in my league who says she has trouble hitting fairways, so she created this fictional organization and delcared herself president!!  A friend ordered it for her.

Kid's Games Challenge Quilt

Our guild had a challenge to generate charity quilts for the children's organization that we support.  We were given a fat quarter of the black print fabric that runs the diagonal in the photo, and had to create a quilt that showed kids playing games, or portrayed games, or was a game itself.  I bought fabric with differet balls on them - basketballs, soccer balls, baseballs, footballs, and of course, golf balls and tees.  The top and bottom borders are from some leftover Las Vegas fabric - representing the ADULT games!!  The quilts were presented at the July meeting and voted on, with the winners getting gift cards to area quilt shops.       40 x 52

T-Shirts

These are the t-shirts of one of our local high school and now college tennis players.  What a great collection of school and tennis camp shirts and tournaments.  He has even spent some time playing tennis in Romania!!  It's a queen size -90  x 104.  Same fabric on the back as the sashings and binding.  I quilted it with a great masculine panto. (bottom photo)   The top two photos are top and bottom halves - couldn't fit it all in one photo.

Rag Quilt

A great "quilt as you go" project for charity.  Uses up batting scraps, as well as smaller pieces of left over fabrics.  Seams are snipped at 1/4" intervals after sewing so they "rag" in the washer.  This will go to my guild's charity group - it supports a children's organization.    36 x 48.

Wedding quilt

This one was made as a wedding gift for a family member.  I took a chance on the fabric patterns, but they had a room with animal prints in their previous home, so I was hoping it would still work.  They both love it, so a good choice.   Plain black on the back with a simple meander quilting pattern.   54 x 62    Updated 6/23 - Just got back from their wedding on the beach in Florida and a visit to their home.  The quilt is proudly displayed on a chair back.  The fabrics fit perfectly with their other accessories with the same theme - even the rug.  They love the quilt and it will certainly get used!

Madalyn's T-shirts

These are Madalyn's t-shirts.  There is a great sampling of her enitre life, not just athletic shirts.  She chose the great colors of lime green on the front and electric blue for the backing.  They really go together well.  Size is a long twin  72 x 97.  I quilted some wonky daisys and leaves.

Something's Fishy . . .

This is a one-block wonder quilt.  I saved some of the original fabric to use on the back, and embroidered fish to swim through the mazes created by the cubes.  Many of the hexagons show the fish swimming round and round the hexagons.  Sometimes there is a smiling face, or a tail in others.  The cubes were a challenge, but fun to add to the quilt.  I quilted this using circle templates centered at each hexagon intersection, which created interlocking circles, more visable on the back.  I quilted a cable in the first blue border,  free motion flip-flop feathers in the narrow pink border, and a free motion veined swirl in the large outer blue border.  I earned a second place ribbon in the 2012  String Along Quilt Guild show.          78 x 85

Orca Bay

This is a Bonnie K. Hunter mystery quilt.  It has almost 4000 pieces, and I made it entirely from shirts.  I saved all the shirt backs to use on the quilt back.  Photos show the feathered quilting on the back - I couldn't get it to photograph well on the front.  It's 78 x 87.  This got an honorable mention at the String Along Quilt Guild  2012 show.

Sneakin' In

8 of these blocks were from the BOM for my guild.  I made the rest to make this 56 x 68.  This will go to our charity  - Comfort Quilts.  I quilted it with the Baptist Fan pattern.  It's kind of hard to see on the backing, but it's there.  They are wider apart than normal - just to get it DONE!! The back is pretty crazy - it was a donation from a customer, and I promised it would go in a charity quilt.  The name comes from the fact that I did it sneaking in an hour here or there between all the customer quilts.

Skip's t-shirts

This one has been done for almost a month, but didn't get it posted till now.  It's is the first of 3 t-shirt quilts for Skip's family.  He was the swim coach for our local high school for almost 30 years and much loved by all.  He was recently inducted into the Hall of Fame at the high school.  This first quilt is for his wife, the next two for his daughters.  All 3 quilts are to be hung, so they are not bed sizes, just sized to fit the shirts that each had picked out.  This one is 62 x 69, and the sashing fabric is also on the back.  I did a free motion quilting that looks like pond water - tried to stick with a water theme to go with the swimming.

Missy's quilts

I made 5 quilts for Missy from her Mom's clothing.  One for herself, her brother, and her 3 kids.  All have different backs - each the recipient's wish.  Most of the clothes were velour warm-up suits, so the quilts are heavy and very textured.  All of the quilts are afghan sized - 56 x 72.  Two are quilted with random hearts, and the other 3 are a medium sized meander.

Embroidery:  "Memories of Mimi" on 4 quilts, "Memories of Mom" on Missy's.  The guy's quilts were done in white, and pink for the girls.

 





Charity string quilt

This one is for the "comfort quilts" group that our guild supports.  There are group of ladies that cut the blocks for foundation piecing, and all the strings, then kit them up for members to make.  So all I had to do was sew the strips, add borders, and quilt it.  There were enough strips pieces left to add the chinese coins border.  The blue and yellow borders were from my stash, and I found a perfect backing to match. I quilted some wonky flowers all over.  It's about 60 x 70, so a nice throw size.

Jim's Ties

This is a 70th birthday present for a friend's husband.  He is a retired pediatrician, so has some really cute ties.  (see Dr Seuss photo)  Some of his favorite shirts are on the ends, and in the corners are the labels from the ties.  The embroidery is his nickname "Doc" , and the name the grandkids call him:  "Oompa".  One of the ties has writing in Latin on the front, and the label has the translation:  "Don't let the bastards get you down."  What a perfect power tie!!  They used to own a small airplane, and the picture and model of the plane were on two shirts.

Trips Around the World

I  made this Bonnie K Hunter variation of Trip Around the World for a friend's Mom who has cancer.  She's going through a tough course of chemo, and I thought this would keep her warm. She worked at JoAnn Fabrics for years, so I know she'll appreciate a quilt.  She likes patriotic stuff, so the backing is red with small white/blue stars all over.  I quilted it using a multi-colored variegated tread, and did swirls with 3 feathers on the back side in the body of the quilt, swirls in the yellow border, and feathers in the blue border.  The binding is scrappy also - lots of leftovers from other quilts.  60 x 84.

Debbie's Memorial Quilts

These are two quilts for Debbie made from her husband's clothing, and are the patterns she chose.  The blocks are from shirts and sport coats, and the borders are from his slacks - khaki and olive green.  The green sashings in the one above left were his flannel PJ's.  They are Irish, so I free-motion quilted 4-leaf clovers throughout both quilts.  One has a kind of splotchy back with various colors of khaki/tan/white, and the other is green/white small argyle plaid.  They are both approx 60 x 75.  She is also having me make a framed project with some of his ties and a few pictures. 

Golf towels

 

I embroidered these golf towels for my golf league season-ending championships. A nice treat to give the ladies as soon as they win, so they get an immediate reward rather than waiting until the banquet to get their regular trophy.

Elaine's T-shirts

Elaine has lots of memories here - both high school and college.  Turns out the school colors for both are the same!!  She is headed to South Korea to teach English as a second language at a university there.  Way to go Elaine - good for you!!  She is taking this quilt with her to keep her memories close at hand.   The backing is a pretty medium/dark blue wavy line plaid.  It's an afghan size - 56 x 87  Aug 2011
