The backing is also a batik, with lots of the colors from the front:
HOME OF AN AWARD WINNING QUILTER - This is a journal of many of the quilts I've made - lots of t-shirt quilts and memory quilts. If you want to see a specific type of quilt, there is a list of "labels" down the right side that will take you to what you want to see.
I'd love to hear your comments on my projects. Feel free to post a note here (click on the word "comment" at the end of the post) , or you can contact me directly. See info on the above tab.

PAT'S BATIKS
Pat made this quilt - the pattern is Turning Twenty -with lots of great batiks. I love all the bright colors. It's 91 x 109. She just wanted a simple meander all over it. I used a grey thread that would blend with most of the fabrics.

QUILT OF VALOR
Joanne in my Quilt of Valor group made this using a panel. It's 64 x 80. I used a white thread to quilt a pantograph with flags and stars.

Charity Quilt
I made an I Spy quilt for my great nephew last Christmas, and I had a lot of focal fabrics leftover, so I made a disappearing 9-patch for my guild's charity group with the leftovers. It's 54 x 71. I used a multi-colored thread to quilt a pantograph with swirls and spikes, and used leftover binding pieces for a scrappy binding.
cards, dice and poker chips
crayons
dogs
basketballs
fish
ladybugs
watermelon
The back was from my stash too:

Sandy's Christmas Quilt
Sandy made this queen size quilt for herself with lots of small pieces of Christmas fabrics. It's 106 x 118. I used a light gold thread to do a large meander all over. She didn't want anything different.
I had to put it on our bed for a picture because I don't have floor space big enough!!
There are 3 borders:
The backing a light gold crackle:

QUILT OF VALOR
This is one that I pieced. I quilted one of this pattern for the national group, and liked the pattern so much that I made my own. It's 60 x 72.
I used a great "fireworks" print for all of the stars and cornerstones. Then I alternated a red or blue solid background, with white sashings.
You can see the hooks I quilted in the red areas, and the X's in the sashing below.
There is an 8-pointed star in the center, with line dancing in the star points.

I had flag print that I used for the border, backing, and binding.

Quilt of Valor
This is a Quilt of Valor that I drafted and pieced. I saw a picture in a magazine, and used that to draft the fabric pieces needed. I forgot to take a picture before I washed it, so it has that crinkled look. It's 66 x 77. I like the way the gold in the corners of the blocks creates a secondary pattern.
This quilt was presented to one of our Congressional Medal of Honor winners. I was lucky enough to be the one to wrap him in it. Beneath the quilt he has a prosthetic right hand:
I quilted an 8-pointed star in the center of gold triangles,
and where there are 4 squares together in the center of each block.
There are hooks in the white triangles;
I quilted connecting curves in all of the other areas
The backing is a great patriotic print:

Barb's Son
Barb lost one of her sons, and sent me a few things to make a memory quilt for the remaining son for Christmas. It's 28 x 44.
The highlight is a picture of her 2 boys:
She had a few t-shirts, his varsity letter, and even his baby blanket.
She bought a few appliques to represent some of his hobbies:
The stripe that is the background and borders was one of his dress shirts.
I quilted it using a pointed meander.. The backing is a light blue grunge fabric.
