Joan's medallion

Joan hand-pieced this beautiful quilt and did a fabulous job.  I love the colors she chose.  I didn't even realize it was hand pieced until I took it back to her. 

 It's 92 x 92, and I used 5 different colors of thread.

There are 4 center blocks on-point that are the same, and 4 in the corners that are the same.  

The rest of them are all different.

Here are the center blocks with green sashings between.  I quilted a small feather circle in the center, with line dancing and hooks in the rest.  The sashings have a wiggly line.

There is a floral block that separates the others, and I quilted a feathered wreath in each of those:

There is a tan and pink border around the center blocks.  I followed the pattern of the cream paisleys in the tan border, and put large and small loops in the pink:

The  next center border is green, and I put feathers in there:

I added feathers in the setting and corner triangles:

Next comes an outer green border, then a floral one.  The green has loops like the pink, and a simple meander in the floral since not much else would show:

The outer border is full of swirly feather.  I love how they came out.  They really make the quilt.  I pre-marked the vine, but the feathers are all free hand 

The backing is the same as the pink on the front.  

Martha's Bees

Martha made this for her brother who has 2 beehives.  Perfect fabric for him for sure.  It's 45 x 69.

I made a template of one of the bees in the fabric and traced it in the borders inside the narrow black border.  It's in the corners, across the top and bottom, and down the sides:

The center panel is divided into sections and outline as if they had been cut apart and pieced:

I quilted hexagons that look the the cells of the honeycomb that's in the outer border.  There small and large loops in the black border.

The backing is very light, so the quilting shows well - 

Gail's table runner

Gail made this seasonal table runner using fusible applique.  Lots of great fall colors in the leaves.   I outlined each leaf, and used brown thread to make veins inside of each one.  The sashings have leaves that flow all around.  The backing is a plain muslin.  It's 16 x 100.

I couldn't get it all in one photo and still have it be visible.  The brown leaf is the same - it's in the center of the runner:

Pat's Cut-up Quilt

Pat made a bunch of blocks from the "Turning Twenty" pattern, then decided she didn't like it.  So she cut them in pieces and put them back together, with a solid fabric between blocks to offset the busy-ness.   This is the result.  It's 65 x 75.  It will go to a friend of her husband.

I used a matching thread and quilted hooks from the corners of the solid blocks, and from the middle of the sides in the cut up blocks.  There are squiggly lines for travel.

She used a light blue/brown plaid for the backing:

Darlene's Mystery

Darlene made this variation from a mystery that our guild did in  2014.  One of those UFO's that finally got done!!  It's 58 x 83.

I did an all-over pattern that is a squared-off swirl.  I sued a taupe thread that blends well on her civil war fabrics

The backing is a soft blue-grey that goes well with the front:

Joan's crazy 4-patches

Joan pieced this from her stash for her daughter.  She made lots of 4-patches, then filled in with other squares.  I used a lime green thread for the quilting since that picked up a lot of the fabrics as well as the outer border fabric.  It's 90 x 97.

Ohio's Squares

Kathy made this as a block-of-the-Month project from a quilt shop in Ohio that she found in her travels - hence the name.  I quilted this last summer for her, but forgot to take pictures.  It was hanging in her guild's show this weekend, so I was able to get pictures then.   I used a variegated thread that has a lot of primary colors in it.  The size is 80 x 98

I tried to carry out the theme of the squares in the pain areas by creating more squares with a filler:

There is simple line dancing in the squares themselves:

The backing is a pretty blue.  Fortunately this quilt is longer than the one hanging on the other side of it at the show, so I could get a picture of the back:

Golf Towels

I embroidered these golf towels for the 2016 champs in one of my golf leagues.  It's a nice treat for the winners - something they can hang on their bag to brag.  The black one is for a friend that won before we started giving them to the winners.

PIGGIES !!!

Cathy made this memorial quilt from her Dad's t-shirts for her daughter.  A neighboring town has a "Pork Fest" every year, and these shirts are from that.  She is using more shirts to make a second one for her niece, so there are pinwheel blocks between the shirts to add size.  It's 78 x 78.

I love all the pigs.  Very whimsical

I quilted an all-over pattern of pigs, and staggered the rows across the quilt.
The backing is a black blender fabric, and shows off the pigs well.
 I used a medium grey thread and smiled every time I did one of those wiggly tails :)

Tonya's Stack 'n Whack

Tonya started this years ago and finally finished it.  She is digging out all her unfinished projects and getting them finished for her grandchildren.  I love the bright colors in this one - makes me wish she was my grandma :)  It's a big one - 80 x 102 with a bright blue backing.  I have applied the red binding to the top, so all she has to do is the hand stitching to finish it.

The original fabric is used in the borders, so you can see the whimsical fruits and vegetables that make the great kaleidoscope pattern.

The fabric makes some great blocks:

I did a dense fill in the background to make those kaleidoscopes really pop. It adds a lot of movement to the quilt.  The blocks have two rounds of a loose wiggly line.

I used a feather/swirl pattern in the sashings:
